Run For Dreams

[lead]The Westside Legacy Trail’s first event was held yesterday October 12th.  More than 1,000 people including runners, parents, volunteers, onlookers, etc. showed up to see 769 young athletes complete the 1K, 3K and 5K Run For Dreams.[/lead]

“It was fabulous to see all those kids out running on the trail – THE generation of people the trail was built for”, commented Daniel Zurgilgen, local realtor and member of trails’ Fundraising Committee.  Trail Diva/Sponsor/Contributor (HUGE Contributor) Barb Shaunessy welcomed kids at the finish line and mentioned, “today shows why Bob and I wanted to support this initiative – it’s all about kids and it is very special to see so many of them participating”.  For the volunteers who spent countless hours contributing to making the trail a reality, it was their opportunity to see good work become a safe place for fresh air and exercise for everyone.  For those who couldn’t attend, the first segment is OPEN!

The event succeeded due to the efforts of many, but the Rotary Club of Invermere and Crazy Soles deserve a huge thank you for offering their decades of experience to help plan and coordinate the entire event and BBQ’ing to feed everyone after the run was over.  Special thanks to the many others who supplied food and prizes including, Joe’s No Frills, Sobey’s, Quality Bakery, Coca-Cola, Canadian Tire, Luxury Resorts (Big Horn Meadows), Gerry’s Gelati and Main Street Fun and Games.
