Westside Legacy Trail Segment 1 – OPEN!
[lead]If you remember the song, Where the Blacktop Ends by Keith Urban, that’s what the Greenways staff was singing this week as the asphalt was being laid down on the Westside Legacy Trail. And, we are pleased to announce that the blacktop does end and segment 1 is OPEN for public use![/lead]
“Laying asphalt has been incredibly exciting this week”, says a smiling Ralph Stewart and Mark Halwa – “and we are thrilled everyone can get out and use the trail now”. The pavement is soooo smoooooth, it is just fabulous to ride/walk/rollerblade/etc. and with a warm weekend in front of us, let’s get those trail counters ticking on Saturday!
Over the coming weeks, the north trailhead kiosk, a painted centreline, interpretive signage, benches and picnic areas will be installed but don’t wait – come on out and enjoy the brand new trail! Trail users can expect to turn around at the end of the pavement at about 2.8 kilometers with the Brady Creek switchbacks that end at Ruault Road being completed later this month. See you on the trail!
