Trail Construction Underway!

[lead]With a great deal of excitement, Greenways is announcing the official start of construction for the Westside Legacy Trail! After raising four of the five million dollars required, we’ve spent a productive winter planning, fundraising, and designing the trail. And, this April, we’ve begun construction![/lead]

Momentum is growing quickly – we’ve broken ground on the Northern sections of #OurTrail, with $1 Million left to fundraise – and any support we get pushes the amount of Trail we can complete this summer even further.

We have many fundraising amenities available, and of course our Meter’s of Trail ($200) are always available, and are perfect for donation matching!

It’s important for us to recognize all of our generous donors, without their support this Trail would not be the success that it is. As you may know a generous donor has pledged to match any donation from now until Canada’s 150th on July 1st, 2017 up to $150,000. With trail construction happening right now it’s the perfect time to make a donation – and have it matched!

What’s the Plan?

After what seemed like a long and cold winter, Spring has finally sprung. Conditions are becoming more favourable as the month progresses; the snow is off the trail, the ground has dried out, and we have a solid group of contractors eager to build the Trail.

The Trail will be built in 7 segments starting from the north and working south. This will involve clearing land, laying down compacted earth, paving, and building amenities. During this time there will be a lot of heavy equipment in all areas of the Trail, and we kindly ask that curious eyes follow our progress online instead of in person. It’s not safe to be near the construction site.
