$1 Million Grant Announced
The Columbia Valley Greenways Trail Alliance is thrilled that the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure today announced $1 Million in funding through the BikeBC program for the Markin-MacPhail Westside Legacy Trail.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support of the BC Government for the Trail. This support brings their total investment to $2 Million – a significant portion of the over $8 Million cost to complete this world-class amenity for our community.” Said Bob Shaunessy, Chair of the Fundraising Committee.
“This new support from the provincial government makes a significant difference in our ability to connect our communities this summer and we are tremendously grateful. Along with over a thousand donors, we have raised $7.1 Million towards the completion of the Trail and I want to acknowledge the impact we can have by all working together” says Lyle Wilson, Chair of the Greenways Trail Alliance.
Thanks to this grant along with other donors, 2019 will see the trail rideable end-to-end from Invermere to Fairmont Hot Springs, with 15km of the 25km paved. Construction is targeted to be fully completed in 2020.
About the Trail
The Westside Legacy Trail is a multi-recreational, human-powered, paved trail that will connect the communities of Invermere and Fairmont Hot Springs. It will be a well-planned and meaningful addition to an already active community, and we encourage residents, businesses and local governments to contribute in their own unique way to help build this world-class trail amenity.
People will feel inspired to support the initiative for different reasons – be it for safety, health, economic impact, a stronger community, or the lifestyle it will provide, to name a few – but whatever your motivation, our diversity can converge on a single trail.
The Trail has raised $7.1 Million to date from over 1,000 donors, with a campaign goal of $8 Million. $3.1 Million has come from private support and $4 Million in grants.
