Segment 4 – Johnston Creek
Segment four, named Johnston Creek, for its picturesque crossing over Johnston Creek. Interpretive signage will adorn this segment with a history of the area, and if you look closely you might see the active beaver dam to the west. From this point, there is a steep climb out of the creek area as Lake Windermere comes back into view. Enjoy the vista from this point, the highest of the segment. What goes up must come down and trail users will descend to the very edge of a pond where a second bench and interpretive signage will be located, before entering into a BC provincial park. The trail continues into a wooded area on private land and detours around a rocky outcrop known as the Rock of Gibraltar before descending to the gates of the historic K2 Ranch. This segment is 2.8 kilometers long and built upon land donated by BC Parks, Shaunessy Ranch Ltd., and the BC Ministry of Transportation.
